Power is back

We lost power during the wee hours of Monday mornings wind storm and just got it back this afternoon. Talk about a pain in the ass. You really do take things like heat and refrigeration for granted. We had to throw out some of our food because they were dairy based. Luckily we have a deep freezer down in the basement. We were able to put our meats down in that so they were saved.

A friend of ours brought over a kerosene heater last night and that helped a ton. From what I hear, there still thousands in Michigan and New York without power. The electric company has supposedly hired extra workers to help get everyone back up and running. So for those of you still in the dark, I hope you are able to keep warm and you have good homeowners insurance to help replace any lost food.

The crazies.....

We have received our fair share of crazy people calling us over the years. I am not talking about annoying clients that think they are entitled to the world I am talking about full fledged, out of touch with reality, thinks aliens have invaded their bodies FREAKS!
Part of me considers these calls as sad but the other part of me thinks these calls are down right hilarious!
I always know 15 seconds in when one of these paranoid schizophrenia are on the line. Let me debrief you on a phone call I received yesterday and you tell me when you notice things start to get "wacky".

Phone rings: 2:45pm
Me: Legendary Investigations, can I help you?
Caller: Hi, how are you doing?
Me: I am doing fine, thank you for asking. How are you this afternoon?
Caller: Well, ummm I have a situation and I thought maybe you could help me.
Me: OK, what do you have going on?
Caller: Well geeze where do I start? I, ummm... I well. God this is hard for me to talk about.
Me: It's OK, take your time.
Caller: Ya see about 3 months ago I started noticing some things going on in my house.
Me: OK, what types of things?
Caller: I went away for a few days and when I came back I saw some things in my house that were different and I wanted to know well ummmm you see these Mexicans just moved in next door and I think they have done some things to me.
Me: Ok, what do you suspect they have done?
Caller: Well when I came home I went to sleep and the next morning I felt as if I was being recorded.
Me: Like someone was watching you from a window or something?
Caller: No, no no, I am serious when I say that these Mexicans came in my room when I was sound asleep and implanted something inside of me that records my every move!! I am being watched and recorded and they are controlling my every move now because of this device.
Me: OK, were there any signs of breaking into the home?
Caller: No but they left a cigarette butt in my ashtray.
Me: OK, so have you called the police?
Caller: Yes I did and they told me to call you guys.
*In my mind I am thinking great, thanks guys*
Me: Mam do you smoke?
Caller: Yes, I smoke
Me: OK, what brand do you smoke? And what type of cigarette was in the ashtray?
Caller: I smoke Newport Kings and there was a Newport King butt in the ashtray.
Me: OK, so what exactly do you need me to do for you?

It was at this point the caller asked if we had equipment that detected camera and bugging equipment. Of course we do have that equipment but I knew where this was going.
And I was correct in my assumptions. She wanted an investigator to come to her home and not only debug her home but also debug HER.
Yea, you read that right. Man I need a nap!!

Clients that lie

There is one thing in this business that I cannot stand. Clients that are dishonest! I was contacted a few weeks ago by a woman who wanted a background check done on her "boyfriend." She had a lot of information on this guy and I asked her why she was needing a background check done. She informed me that she feels like he is hiding something from her and also wanted to see if he was a legal US citizen. OK, so I began working on the background check and during the process did not find anything derogatory on this mans record.

The only thing that appeared to be weird about this man was it looked as though he had a woman living at his residence. The next time my client called I asked her how much time she spends with her boyfriend, has she been to his home, how long they have been together etc. I was starting to think that maybe this man was living a secret life and was actually married. My client entertained this idea and acted as if I could be correct. I told her the next time she saw her boyfriend to be subtle and question him. We talked for almost an hour about his behavior's and how I was going to attempt to locate a marriage license to confirm that he was or was not married.

2 days later my client called me back as I instructed her to and I informed her that there was no marriage license to be found. The woman that lived with him at the residence could possibly be his sister since their last names are the same. I asked her if she had any success in questioning her boyfriend and she told me that she did not. He apparently avoided all the questions that she asked him. My client went on and on about how she just had to find some dirt on this man. Then the truth came out.

This man she had hired me to investigate was not her boyfriend after all. He was actually the boyfriend of a family friend. She was trying to get dirt on this guy to show to the friend that he was an asshole and she shouldn't be with him. WOW I was shocked and pretty pissed off. This woman had convinced me that this was HER boyfriend and it was really important that she knew the truth about him so she could either continue the relationship or dump him and get on with her life. I spent a lot of time talking to this woman and feeling bad for her. I took her calls during times that were inconvenient for me and my family because I wanted to help her.

I am pretty sure that she knew if she told me the truth I wouldn't take her case. Damn right I wouldn't!! If the family friend wants to be with this man then that in my opinion is none of anyone's business. I can understand being concerned about someone you care about but to medal around the way this woman did without her friend knowing it is inexcusable.
So, if ever you need any type of investigative work done please be sure to be honest with your investigator from the start. If your situation is complicated or you do not think an investigator would touch it, give all of the details anyways! You might be upset to find that a P.I. will not take your case or you might be surprised that they will. Whatever you do please don't lie. It will only jeopardize the case and cause you to waste money. Lying about the details of a case is considered interfering with the investigation. In our contract it states that if it is found that you are interfering with the case, your case will be terminated and no refunds will be issued.

Im a sucky Blogger

Man I have been slacking off big huh? We have been adjusting to a new schedule the past few weeks and it has been really tough on everyone in the house. My usual "free" time is used up with stuff I HAVE to do because I have no other time left over to do any of it.
Hubby now works a 9 to 5 so I have been thrown back into full time Mom mode. I no longer have him here to share all the household / parenting / business duties with me. It is all on me me me and to be honest I am wiped out lately. It is OK though because I am great full for the 9 to 5.

The only real free time I get anymore is from 8am - 10:20am when our daughter is at preschool. But instead of blogging I will usually just stare at the wall for 2 hours and try to figure out what to do with the quiet time I have just been awarded. By the time I figure out what I want to do or what I want to blog about, it is time to go get the little one from school.
I do not plan on giving up on this blog though. I will get my groove back soon.
